Facebook 101: A Facebook Beginner’s Guide to Privacy
Facebook is one of the most popular and powerful social media platforms in the world. With just a few clicks, you can connect with friends, family, co-workers and more, and can share your world with millions all over the globe.
Of course, having so much information out there about yourself may give you pause for concern. Privacy is a big issue for many who are on Facebook and want more control over who sees what they post. Fortunately, there are ways you can control privacy on Facebook and restrict access so that your information goes just to the people you want it to go to.
Here is a Facebook beginner’s guide to privacy on the platform, including Facebook video tutorials that demonstrate how you can create privacy settings that work for you.
Understanding Privacy on Facebook
Facebook has a robust set of privacy settings for you to tailor to your own needs.
You can find privacy settings in several places: your posts, your profile, and your account.
You can control, for example, who sees what you post. You can choose public, friends, friends of friends, only you, and custom groups of people. Anything public can be seen by virtually anyone. Friends of friends lets your friends see your posts, plus anyone who is friends with them. Of course, you can also make things visible only to you, with the ‘only me’ option.
Note that tagging someone in a post allows them to see the content, no matter what setting you choose.

Setting and Managing Your Privacy on Facebook
The next part of this Facebook beginner’s guide is setting and managing privacy for your account and profile.
To view and adjust your privacy settings, click the gear icon in the upper right-hand corner of your page and click Settings. Click on the Security tab and make sure you have the ‘Browse Facebook on a secure connection’ box checked.
You can then click on several security shortcuts that can control who contacts you, who can see your stuff, and more options. You can also see who can send you friend requests. Furthermore, you can change who can post on your timeline, and whether or not you have to manually approve what is posted to your timeline.
